A cowboy’s job is to keep shoes on his “string.” Sometimes the job is difficult with a young
horse. The artist gives the viewer a good understanding through this piece as it depicts the
feelings of not only the cowboy but the horse with only one shoe to go. Tying up the foot helps control the horse.
